BIOGRAPHY:

Tanya Murphy is a Charlotte-based multidisciplinary artist whose work beautifully explores American landscapes, cultural history, and nostalgia. Deeply rooted in the philosophy of finding beauty within the imperfect and the impermanent, her art documents life cycles in nature, ancestral connections, and the emotional resonance of the passing of time.

Murphy holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over a career spanning more than thirty years, her highly texturized and spiritually concrete artworks have been widely exhibited and acquired by prominent public and private institutions. Her works are notably included in the permanent collections of the Fogg Museum at Harvard University (Cambridge, MA), the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (Philadelphia, PA), and the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum (Havre de Grace, MD). 

In 2026, Murphy was juried into the prestigious ArtPop Street Gallery artist cohort. Her winning mixed-media piece, "Duality II" (featuring photo ink transfer and leaf metal foil on canvas), is showcased on regional billboards across North Carolina, on digital displays in Times Square, New York City, and internationally in the Netherlands.

Beyond her studio practice, Murphy is an active community advocate, educator, independent curator, gallery director, and writer. She contributes to the local arts landscape as a resident artist of the Charlotte Studio Artists Collective (located in the historic NoDa arts district) and maintains active memberships with the Guild of Charlotte Artists and the National Conference of Artists.
