Natural Flow: December 2022 - Featured Artist Exhibition / Charlotte Art League

It is my pleasure to share thumbnails of my featured artist exhibition, Natural Flow with the Charlotte Art League. My intentions with this small series of art are to explore how nature is beautiful and informative in all of its stages. These images include photographic transfers on paper and fibers as well as mixed media images capturing large, dried, banana leaves and catalpa tree bean pods at the end of their season of life. In addition, I give a small preview of my recent photography expedition to the beautiful Jekyll Island beaches in Georgia portraying how the natural driftwood / trees help the beach continue to thrive. Each subject, shown as they are now, in their current state, and I hope to force us to think about human life in relation and with respect to change, movement and evolution.

Natural Flow: Nature Inspired Art Exhibition by Tanya Murphy

The Charlotte Art League in Charlotte, North Carolina, will host and feature me and my latest art creations during the month of December 2022. The exhibit dates are December 9th, 2022, through January 6th, 2023. In this artwork series I am exploring nature’s resilient journeys by documenting stages in the process of natural aging, beauty and evolution. I am intrigued in capturing beautiful moments in the aging leaf dancing in the wind, and the driftwood tree as it has returned to the shore to find its final resting place. See this Art League exhibit on their website, go to FEATURED ARTIST on https://www.charlotteartleague.org/. Artwork is available to purchase through my website shop page. Thank you for visiting.

Happy 2021!

2020 was a very difficult year due to restrictions on travel which cancelled my plans for doing shows in MD, Virginia, NC and SC. Many good things came about to be grateful for as well. Never before have I understood the value of a hug, a phone call and staying connected to others.

As for my artwork, new avenues of creating presented itself to my consciousness. These visuals were able to emerge through me as a result of much personal reflection. and some resistance, and fear of the unknown….however, I got out of my own way and went with it, so to speak. That is a teaser!!! Look out for the new works coming soon! Meanwhile, here is a featured look at my latest commission completed, a large commission portraying a Bounty Hunter’s journey called, “Looming Over Us”. This artwork was completed for the Havre De Grace Museum, MD. They are executing an Underground Railroad exhibit at their newly resorted Maritime Museum. The exhibit and museum opening never happened as planned in May of 20202 due to Covid-19, but it is on the horizon, TBD. Additionally other artworks left my studio and found new homes in spite of limited conditions to be physical. Lastly, at the end of December 2020, two of my recent upgraded artworks using wax and mixed media sold. Happy Holidays to Me!

my inspiration

History is not everything, but it is a starting point. History is a clock that people use to tell their political and cultural time of day. It is a compass they use to find themselves on a map of human geography. It tells them where they are but, more importantly, what they must be.”
— John Henrik Clarke
